Fred and Ben Savage (CP)

The native Chicago natives, Fred and Ben Savage where both teen idols at one point in their careers.  Fred, star of the popular show, The Wonder Years, and many other film before that like The Wizard(1989) and Little Monsters(1989), among many others.  Younger brother Ben, was star of his own popular teen show, Boy Meets World. Unknown to most, both Ben and Fred appeared in Little Monsters together and Fred appeared as a guest on Boy Meets World, playing one of Cory’s teachers who had an interest in Topanga, Cory’s on-again, off-again girlfriend.

Today, Fred sticks mostly to directing for popular Disney Channel shows like Hannah Montana, That’s So Raven, and Wizards of Waverly Place, and occasionally directing adult-themed shows like It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Fred is a Stanford graduate with a degree in English.  He is also a family man, married to Jennifer Lynn Stone.  They now have two children: three-year old Oliver, and one-year old Lily.

Ben on the other hand, continued acting but managed to keep a low profile.  After Boy Meets World, Ben appeared in small roles mostly on television, most notably on Chuck, and Without a Trace.  Recently, he just finished work on a small indie, yet promising film called Closing Time about a couple guys who take their friend (Savage) out for a night on the town after getting out of a long term relationship.  After watching the trailer I could only hope that in the future he loses those “boy meets world” traits that were funny and cute in the show, but not so much at the age of 29.  Ben is currently working on the film, Doesn’t Texas Ever End, in a supporting role.  In 2003, Ben interned for a U.S. Senator Arlen Specter, as a requirement for completing his studies at Stanford University as well, where he graduated in 2004, with a degree in Political Science.  Maybe one day we’ll see little Ben as a married man like his more successful brother.

Enjoy the weekend, this has been your weekly What Ever Happened to…?

Fred has also directed more grown up fare, such as Party Down on Starz (Starring Jane Lynch, Martin Starr & Ken Marino).
