Weekly Movie Roundup: Bounties, Organ Repossessions, and Wimps

Looks like Hollywood has continued to bless moviegoers with another wonderfully mediocre trio of films starting with Repo Men, starring Jude Law, Forest Whitaker, and Liev Schreiber.  ‘Repo‘ takes place in the near future where people are able to purchase organs on credit.  Jude Law plays an agent who repossesses said organs if the buyer fails to make payments on it.  He ends up needing a new heart, which he then, due to financial hardships (come on people, even in the future, we’re still in recession), he fails to make payments on his ticker and finds himself on the runs from the very people he works with in order to not have his heart, and life, ripped out of his chest.  I gotta say.  It’s a fresh story, and the trailer makes for a promising two minutes, but how will this hold up to the masses?

Next, we have The Bounty Hunter, starring Gerard Butler, and Jennifer Aniston.

Oh, Jennifer Aniston, when will you learn.  And you too Gerard, you started off really well with 300, and then for some reason you were type cast for romantic comedies.  ‘Bounty‘ is about, rightfully, a Bounty Hunter who finds himself having to bring in his ex-wife.  He thinks it’ll be an easy gig, until silly ol’ JAniston decides she wants to go on the run.  Hmm, is this all sounding familiar?  Sure enough, hilarity ensues when these two match up.  Good times all around right??  ::sigh::

And last but not least, we have “Diary of a Wimpy Kid“.  Based on the best selling series of children’s books, ‘Diary’ features all the characters in the book including Greg, Rowley, and Fregley who are shown here in the “there’s a hair in it” scene.  For those of you with children, you know they’ll want to check it out which in turn will lead you to check it out because you’re not a negligent mommy/daddy.  When my daughter saw the trailer for this, her eyes lit up with excitement as she witnessed the addition of the “cheese-touch” bit into the movie.  A simple, yet effective and relative story revolves around Greg, a wise-cracking boy dealing with the horror which is middle school.  I’ve seen the trailer about three or four times and it gets funnier every time I watch it, if that means anything.

And so this week’s MiYM movie pick is: Repo Men

I’ve seen enough of Gerard Butler as the funny guy and Jennifer Aniston needs to stop acting and find herself a man (that’ll will stay with her for more than a month) already.  And although, my intial pick was ‘Wimpy‘, I went with Repo Men because ‘Wimpy‘, as promising as it looks, is a wait-for-DVD title for me.  Repo Men, along with its bold story, does have the potential to bring ‘Alice’ out of its top–oh, who am I kidding.  Maybe it’ll take the number two spot away from Green Zone.  Enjoy meaty moviegoers!

I loved Repo Men. Great story. It’s realistic. I can totally see this happening in the future. We ought to take better care of our health/bodies. Don’t want to be stuck with an artificial organ we can’t afford!
