official film stillHow to Train Your Dragon

Not much going on this week in theaters as far as quantity, but the two major films that are being released are something to talk about.

Hot Tub Time Machine poster & wallpaperFour best friends, (John Cusack, Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson (NBC’s The Office), and Clark Duke), discover that hot tubs can be fun, especially ones who time-travel back to the 1980’s, in Hot Tub Time Machine.  After each of the guys faces obstacles in their lives, they decided to take a trip to a ski resort where they indulge in heavy drinking and partying… in a mysterious hot tub.  The next morning they wake up and find that they have traveled through time via said time-machine.  So, the guys decide they’re going to try to change their past in order to have the future they wanted.  This definitely looks like a good time.

How to Train Your DragonIn How to Train Your Dragon, Hiccup, a young viking, is brought up in life to hunt dragons.  The funny thing is he ends up having a dragon as his own adorable little pet, and wouldn’t you know it, he learns how to train it.  That’s it.  That’s the basic storyline, BUT that doesn’t mean it won’t be good.  This is a Dreamworks picture.  The same people that brought you Shrek, Kung-Fu Panda, Monsters Vs. Aliens, Over the Hedge; all huge successes.  ‘Dragon‘ won’t go unnoticed especially with the cast that has been brought together.  Jay Baruchel(She’s Out of My League, 2010), Gerard Butler, Jonah Hill, America Ferrara, Craig Ferguson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Superbad, Role Models) are only some of the celebs Dreamworks landed for the viking community.

This weeks MiYM Movie Pick:  Draw!

I can’t decide which one I want to see more.  I’m a fan of great comedians (Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson) in ‘Hot Tub’, and I’m just as big a fan of Dreamworks films.  I’m just gonna have to recommend both this weekend.  I’m sure whatever you decided to watch, you won’t be disappointed.   One thing is for sure, I can almost bet money on ‘Dragons’ taking ‘Alice’ out of the top spot.   If it doesn’t, it will definitely take that ‘Wimpy Kid’ out of second.   Enjoy your weekend!

Chris Evans

Finally, Marvel has found their Cap’n.  Chris Evans, who was offered the role last week and accepted it over the weekend, is set to play the patriotic crime fighter.  Ever since Captain America movie rumors surfaced, rumors about who would play the non-caped Avenger floated around as well.  Everyone from Brad Pitt, to Leo DiCaprio, to The Office’s John Krasinski was linked to play the role.  But when it finally came down to Chris Evans, Channing Tatum, and Gossip Girl’s Sebastian Stan, Evans was granted the role.  I’m sure glad he did, because Stan looks way too incapable, and Tatum’s acting could be better utilized somewhere else… actually, he needs to stop making films.

Do you think Marvel made the right choice?

Oh, come one.  You all remember Step by Step! It ran for 7 years on ABC’s TGIF.  TGIF also featured the likes of Family Matters, Boy Meets World, and Full House, to name a few.  Over the years (1991-1998) it became a huge staple in my childhood and all of a sudden it was canceled! (more…)

Looks like Hollywood has continued to bless moviegoers with another wonderfully mediocre trio of films starting with Repo Men, starring Jude Law, Forest Whitaker, and Liev Schreiber.  ‘Repo‘ takes place in the near future where people are able to purchase organs on credit.  Jude Law plays an agent who repossesses said organs if the buyer fails to make payments on it.  He ends up needing a new heart, which he then, due to financial hardships (come on people, even in the future, we’re still in recession), he fails to make payments on his ticker and finds himself on the runs from the very people he works with in order to not have his heart, and life, ripped out of his chest.  I gotta say.  It’s a fresh story, and the trailer makes for a promising two minutes, but how will this hold up to the masses?

Next, we have The Bounty Hunter, starring Gerard Butler, and Jennifer Aniston. (more…)

4.4 Magnitude
Most of us felt the 4.4 magnitude shaker early Tuesday morning, but Brian was not disturbed.  The wife woke me up with something about an earthquake but I dismissed her claims mostly due to the fact that I feel tremors like this in bed every night.  Now, now, get your mind out of the gutter.  I’m talking about the wife’s sleeping habits.  But that is neither here nor there.  The bed shook a bit and the house creaked and moaned.  That was the extent of it here in Long Beach, 21 miles away.  Not the case though closer to the epicenter.

It’s been a couple weeks now since the latest Burton/Depp collaboration was released but I say they should’ve taken a few extra months to clean up this very unhappy mess. (more…)
