The World Turns Black

No, it isn’t the apocalypse. That’s not ’till 2012, remember? I’m referring to Dan Black, a fluke of a find indeed.

Dan Black, an original member of the band “The Servants”, went solo after the band split in 2007. In 2008, he was signed by Polydor Records and released his first two singles “Alone” and “Yours” (Check out the video for both of these at It wasn’t until his 2009 breakthrough hit, “HYPNTZ” (aka “Symphonies”), that he started gaining recognition. The track was a mash up of Rhianna’s “Umbrella” beats, and the late Notorious B.I.G.’s “Hypnotize” lyrics, composed in such an unbelievably cohesive way that you will have trouble recognizing the words, but it won’t matter because you’ll be lost in the track. Aside from making hits, the British electronica artist is also a guest vocalist in an Italian group, Planet Funk. Now with Black’s quick rise to fame, I could only assume that he won’t have much time for these guys as he once did.

Dan Black’s debut album, “UN”, is set to release February 16, 2010 in the states. If you happen to live in Southern California, Best Buy will be selling the album for $1.06 for the first week after its release. From the few tracks I heard off of “UN” as well as the older stuff, this album will definitely be worth full price if you can’t afford $1 the first week. Come on people! I can probably find a dollar in the couch.

  1. thanks for the hassle you set into sharing it with us. nice post
